Food Gifting on the Rise: Wedding Shoppers Realize Good Food Equals Great Gifts

March 17th, 2012 | Rss Feed

Food has a unique way of connecting people. It brings together families and friends, joins people in reminiscing or in experimenting, and is the center of celebrations, memories and friendships. With this year’s wedding season approaching, more nuptial presents will include desserts, entrees and specialty foods than ever before.

Food gifting, for both weddings and in general, is one of the few areas that has increased despite the down economy over the last few years. Edible gift sales rose nearly 10 percent in the United States from 2007 to 2009, according to the report “Food Gifting in the United States, Second Edition,” and experts say those numbers continue to grow.

This rise is marked by both an increased demand for specialty foods, like truffles, gourmet marshmallows or artisan granola, as well as the rise in smaller food companies adding ecommerce capabilities to their websites. With these boutique delicacies on the web, gift shoppers not only have convenient access to foods from across the country, they can also easily send these tasty treats directly to the recipient’s door.

More than anything, food offers a unique way to personalize gifts – after all, it’s easy to warm the heart when you fill the stomach!

When shopping for a bride and groom, food is a perfect addition to an item off their registry. Buying an oversized pot? Complete a date-night package with fresh lobsters straight from Maine. Getting the dessert trays she asked for? Add a selection of oatmeal cookies and sweet candies. Can’t make it to the shower? Send a bouquet of cake pops for the bride and guests to enjoy.

The bride herself has a number of gifts to buy as the big day approaches. With online food vendors she can now find gifts for the wedding party, typically made up of people from all different stages of the couple’s life, with a personalized touch.  You can buy ice cream for your sister from your favorite shop in the town you grew up in. For your college roommate, the soup you had on your spring break ski trip.  And for the parents of the couple, share your wedded bliss with a romantic evening of their own complete with steaks, all the fixings and a bottle of wine.

As wedding season approaches once again, be prepared with a food gift whether you’re at the altar or catching the bouquet.

Custom Wedding Music CD

February 2nd, 2012 | Rss Feed

Have you ever considered a music entertainer such as a band, DJ or friend, not having the music you requested for your wedding ceremony or reception? Brides always expect their music providers to have their special music requests for their wedding day.  Let me state that professional music entertainers WILL have the music their clients request.  In the Internet age it should not be an issue. However, we have heard time and time again of brides being irate at their music entertainers for not having a song they requested for the wedding ceremony or reception.

We would like to offer the suggestion for brides and grooms to create your own custom wedding music CD with all your required songs for your wedding ceremony and reception. You can have it in your possession on your wedding day to give to your music master of ceremonies or music entertainer.  This will guarantee the M.C. has the songs you requested for your special day. Having your own songs will also guarantee the playing of the correct versions of the songs. An example would be the Shania Twain song From This MomentFrom This Moment is sung by Shania Twain by herself and also as a duo with Shania Twain and Bryan White. In addition, there are live versions of the song.  A great way to verify you have the correct song versions is to go to Amazon.com and listen to the different song samples of each song.

Custom wedding music CDs can be created at home on your computer by purchasing and then downloading MP3 songs from web sites like iTunes and Amazon . The cost for each song is about one dollar. Then, write the songs to a blank CD-R (you can only copy songs to the cd once) or CD-RW (you can save songs to the CD and update songs) using a software program such as Sonic.  Usually, you can get about 17 songs per each CD.  Once you have all the songs you want for your wedding saved on CD(s), your set to give them to your wedding music entertainer.

When you purchase songs from Amazon or iTunes, you are given seven licenses for each song purchased. Therefore, you can legally create seven CDs of your new songs purchased online. As a result of having seven licenses, you can offer a custom music CD to your wedding guests as a wedding favor or memento very inexpensively. Be sure to purchase the number of songs in correlation to the number of seven CD collections. The custom music CD would be a great keepsake. You just cannot sell the CDs due to copyright laws.  In addition, many online sites and stores like Best Buy offer custom labels and CD label software.  Brides and grooms can personalize their CD favors with wedding artwork, their names and date of the wedding.  Colored CD cases are also available to complete the perfect wedding favor.

Want to create a Custom Music CD?

You can create your own CD on iTunes and download it to your computer to write it to the medium used by your wedding music entertainer (mp3, CD, etc.).

Top Five Wedding Favors And Why

At most weddings, the bride and groom will offer some type of small memento as a note of appreciation to family and friends, more commonly known as wedding favors. As you will discover in this article, the type of favors are widely varied but there are some that are considered better choices than others. Remember, wedding favors do not have to be expensive.

In fact, this type of gift can be something homemade. If you want to go all out, that is certainly fine, but it is also not necessary.  The focus of the wedding favor is to let people know you are grateful for their assistance with your wedding and/or reception or that you are just honored they showed up. To help you get started, we have provided you with the top five wedding favors.

Edible Favors

One of the most popular types of wedding favor is food/ edible favors, simply because most people love to eat. A wonderful option, which is easy and inexpensive to make, would be to purchase small wedding favor boxes and then line them with white tissue paper.

Place candy, or dark chocolate covered peanuts inside and tie the box off with any color ribbon. Watch everyone enjoy the beautiful wedding favor box but even more, the delicious goodies inside. This is a very nice choice for both informal and formal weddings.

Another great idea is a “Candy Bar/Buffet.”  Your guests will love this! Place the candies in containers and you don’t need to worry about packaging, therefore you can buy them in bulk.  It’s a good idea to have a variety of candies in a variety of colors.  You can decorate and label the containers with the black board with clips. They add charm to any table setting, favor, and are great use as food labels or for any message you wish to communicate to your guest.

Flower Plant

The second of the top five wedding favors is a fresh plant or flower seeds. With this, you can get as creative as you want. A couple of ideas that work very nice is placing a miniature plant or cacti in a small terra cotta planter.  With a little creative thinking, these wedding favors will be unique. With a small amount of plastic film added to the interior, any favor box or small pot can become a perfect mini flower vase. Your table will look stunning and your guests will be amazed when they are asked to take one home.

Fragrant Soap

For the third of the top five wedding favors, you might also consider fragrant soap. It is a lovely wedding favor to place in hotel rooms of out-of-town guests or give them at the reception.  There are many shapes and scents to choose from, and they come beautifully packaged with a “Thank You” or “For You” tag at YourWeddingGirl.com.

Candles

Now for the fourth of the top five wedding favors, you can never go wrong with votive candles, enjoyed by both men and women. Wedding candle favors always make romantic and practical gifts. Who doesn’t love a fragrant, beautiful, decorative, or unique candle?  Give your guest a candle favor they are guaranteed to love.

Pewter

Finally, the last of the five top wedding favors would be pewter or silver. You will find many wonderful choices such as picture frames, paperweights, and bottle openers/winestoppers. With this type of gift, you will probably pay a little more but this is a nice gift for a more formal wedding, affluent group list, or members of the bridal party. Remember, you can choose from hundreds of wedding favors to include miniature bottles of wine, stationary with last name and wedding date, golf balls and tees for the sports enthusiasts, and the list goes on and on. Whether you go with bubbles to be blown as you and your new spouse leaves the church to creative miniature baskets filled with candles, candy or Jordon’s almonds and everything in between, the key is to choose wedding favors that coordinate with your wedding but that are also special for your type of guest list.

Travel Destination Favors

Ideas for Travel Destination Favors and Wedding Gift Bags

You have finalized travel arrangements and booked hotels for your destination wedding. Now you are deciding what kind of travel destination favors to give your guests and how to present them. This article provides wedding favor ideas for your destination wedding guests.

You want your destination wedding to be a memorable and enjoyable occasion. One way to ensure your guests get the most out of their hotel stay for your wedding weekend is to give them a wedding gift bag or out-of-town bag, also called OOT bags, filled with goodies and neat treats upon their arrival at the hotel rooms.

Wedding Gift Bags can be filled with anything from bottled water and snacks to miniature bottles of champagne and a set of plastic toasting glasses with a few fine chocolates and a scented candle. A small travel sewing kit is a winner every time. You will not believe how many of your guests will thank you for this wonderful and practical gift. It is not uncommon for guests to comment on how their sewing kit saved the day when they used it to sew on a button that popped off from a suit or dress just before your wedding.

Another idea is to research the local customs and favorite cuisines around the area of your destination wedding. Local travel pamphlets about area attractions are free in most areas. Simply contact the chamber of commerce for the area where your wedding will take place. Your travel agent is also a great resource for finding small favors to add to your wedding gift bags.

An 8″ x 5″ x 10″ paper or poly gift bag is the most common size used as gift bags. Ask the hotel host or hostess to place one of these bags on the vanity or night stand of each hotel room, welcoming your guests to your city or an exotic island or location. You may also want to make arrangements for your gift bags to be handed out by the host or hostess as your guests check in to the hotel.

You will probably want to assemble your guest welcome bags and box them up before you leave for your destination. This will make it easy to transport and deliver to your hotel. In some cases, you may want to wait until you have arrived at your wedding location so you can purchase local goodies to add to your bags. Another option is to check with your hotel to see if they have staff available to set up the gift bags for you.

Your wedding guests will be delighted to find the treasures that await them when they check in to their hotel rooms. Add a personal message by having your wedding gift bags custom printed with a personal message from the bride and groom saying “Welcome to Our Wedding Weekend” or “Thank You for Joining Us” along with the bride and grooms names and wedding date.

No matter what you decide to give as destination wedding favors, your guests will appreciate this token of your gratitude for their participation on your most special day.
