In February 2012, VH1 released their list of the 100 Greatest Women in Music.  We decided to create our list of the 10 Greatest Women Wedding Artists.  Our list of 17 is formulated from VH1′s list of the 100 Greatest Women in Music.   Women music artists have produced some of the most memorable wedding songs of all time.

#17 Taylor Swift – With her broad popularity, we are surprised she is not higher on the lists.  However, many of her songs are a medium tempo which creates havoc for many grooms.  Although the song Love Story is on the top of many wedding song lists.

#16 Carrie Underwood – Many of this Country superstar’s songs are wedding appropriate.  Our favorite is Mama’s Song for mother dedications.

#15 Colbie Caillat – With her very unique pop voice, she is on wedding song charts as a soloist Bubbly,I Do and as a duo with Jason Mraz – Lucky.

#14 Faith Hill – One of the Queens of modern country.  She has a list of her own of wedding appropriate songs like There You’ll Be, The Way You Love Me and Like We Never Loved At All.

#13 Madonna – Number one on VH1, we have to include dance hits like Holiday and Vogue and the love theme song from Vision Quest - Crazy For You.

#12 Shania Twain – Not only does Shania have a great wedding anniversary song, You’re Still The One, but she has a great first dance song, From This Moment On.

#11 Mariah Carey – Arguably the best artist of the 90s, she produced mere hit love songs galore such as Hero, I’ll Be There, One Sweet Day, Thank God I Found You and so on!

#10 Mary J. Blige – Mary sings with so much emotion.  However, our favorite wedding song of hers is Family Affair.  Beautiful is also a great wedding love song.

#9 Beyoncé – One of the leading women in the music industry.  She tops wedding song lists with Crazy In Love and Single Ladies (Put A Ring on It).

#8 Rihanna – Rihanna has produced a collection of songs to fill dance floors at wedding receptions like Don’t Stop The Music and We Found Love.

16 Modern Waltz Songs for Weddings

Nov
28

What is the Waltz?  The Waltz in a ballroom dance in triple time with a strong accent on the first beat.  The waltz is primarily danced in the closed position.  It is believed to have started in the 16th century.

A typical song is about 3-4 minutes in length.  Therefore, plan for a minimum of 12 hours of practice to perfect your dance.  If you choose to make your first dance a waltz, contact your local dance studio and they will help with a choreographed routine.  If you select your first dance as a waltz, it is also commonly known as the Bridal Waltz.

If you are the bride and groom dancing a waltz for your first dance, be sure to practice with the bride wearing her wedding dress (even if it is in private without the groom).  This way you can test the length of the dress and the weight so all the turns can be performed as expected.

If you would like to see a waltz danced, view past shows of Dancing With The Stars and So You Think You Can Dance. Some of the songs listed below were danced to on past episodes. For your convenience, we also listed they music genre and release date of each song.

Greatest 14 Wedding Hip Hop Songs

Sep
17

VH1 created a list of the Top 100 Hip Hop Songs of all-time.  We got to thinking and decided to narrow down the list to our favorite wedding songs from that list.  Hip Hip fans can be excited as our list is part of the most memorable and historical songs in music history.  The year the song was released is noted with the rank on the VH1 Hip Hop songs list.  Here’s our list of the greatest 14 wedding hip hop songs.

  • Heavy D. and the Boyz – Now That We Found Love (1991 – Ranked 86).  This a great upbeat song to fill dance floors.  Now That We Found Love would also be a great intro song for the wedding party.
  • PM Dawn – Set Adrift On Memory Bliss (1991 – Ranked 81).  A remix sampling from Spandau Ballet’s True.  Set Adrift On Memory Bliss has a great beat and would make a great background song or slow tempo dance song.
  • House Of Pain – Jump Around (1992 – Ranked 66).  Not for your stereotypical wedding song.  This uptempo song is for a younger crowd but will fill the dance floor.
  • L.L. Cool J – I Need Love (1987 – Ranked 60).  I Need Love is considered the first rap ballad.  A classic slow song that rose to #14 on the Billboard charts.  I Need Love would also be a good Garter Removal song.
  • Young MC – Bust A Move (1989 – Ranked 47).  Bust A Move has been a time tested dance song to fill wedding dance floors.   With a fast tempo beat, wedding guests will want to bust a move to this song.
  • Method Man ft/ Mary J. Blige – I’ll Be There For You/You’re All I Need to Get By (1995 – Ranked 44).  From all the songs listed on the Greatest 100 Hip Hop Songs, this song makes the best choice for first dance song as a married couple.  I’ll Be There For You is based upon the original song sung by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.
  • Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock – It Takes Two (1988 – Ranked 37).  It Take Two is a dance classic to fill dance floors for years to come.  A great party tune for all ages.
  • Nelly – Hot In Herre (2002 – Ranked 36).  This is a great song for the garter removal or for the garter placement.  Hot In Herre is also a fast tempo song to fill dance floors.
  • Queen Latifah ft. Monie Love – Ladies First (1989 – Ranked 35).  We could not leave out a song from one of the most influential women in Hip Hip history.  Ladies First would make a great bouquet toss song.
  • MC Hammer – U Can’t Touch This (1990 – Ranked 26).  This is probably the most recognized Hip Hop/Pop song on the list across all genres.  A great fast tempo dance song to get wedding guests dancing.
  • 50 Cent – In Da Club (2003 – Ranked 18).  This is the newest Hip Hop song on the list.  In Da Club rose to #1 on the Billboard charts and will definitely get wedding guests in the mood to dance.
  • Sir Mix-A-Lot – Baby Got Back (1992 – Ranked 17)  A great fun party songs to fill the dance floor.  It may offend some.  However, there was a viral video on YouTube that showed a bridal couple dancing to this.
  • Run-DMC ft/ Aerosmith – Walk This Way (2001 – Ranked 4).  A great collaboration between Hip Hop and Rock all-stars.  Originally performed by Aerosmith and sampled by Run-DMC.  Wedding guest will want to get their groove on to this mid-tempo song.
  • Sugarhill Gang – Rapper’s Delight (1980 – Ranked #2).  Considered one of the few songs that helped popularize hip hop music.  Rapper’s Delight was revitalized with a skit in the movie The Wedding Singer in 1998.  Not only can you break dance to Rapper’s Delight, many wedding parties plan rehearsed dance moves to this song.

VH1 Greatest Artists with Best Songs for Weddings 20-1

May
30

VH1 released a list of the greatest artists of all-time.  However, we would like to take that list and provide our favorite wedding song by those artists.  Here is our continuation for numbered artists 20-1.  Some artists listed do not perform music considered standard wedding music.  If we are speechless on a suggestion, please offer your own as a comment.  We will consider making changes to our list.

20 Marvin Gaye – Marvin was one of the best male R&B artists of all-time.  Too bad his life ended too early.  There are many songs Marvin created that are suitable for a wedding.  However, our favorite is Ain’t No Mountain High Enough sung with Tammi Terrell.
19 U2 – One of the best rock bands of all-time.  A great way to start wedding festivities is Beautiful Day.
18 Pink Floyd – We could choose Money for the dollar dance but many brides feel the dollar dance as asking for money.  Therefore, we’ll select Mother for the Mother Son dance.
17 Queen – You’re My Best Friend can be played in so many scenarios during a wedding reception.  Play it for parent dances, for friends or even a first dance.
16 Madonna – We could easily select Vogue as an iconic dance party song.  However, our pick is the love song Crazy For You.  This song also played in two scenes in the movie Vision Quest.
15 The Beach Boys – If you are slower tempo song, we select Kokomo.  For a more upbeat song we select Good Vibrations.
14 Nirvana – The most mainstream song by Nirvana was Smells Like Teen Spirit.  However, for the Nirvana fan we would select Heart Shaped Box.
13 The Who – This was actually a difficult pick.  We select a great grand entrance song (being from Las Vegas) from the hit show CSI – Who Are You.
12 David Bowie – Our wedding song pick is appropriately called The Wedding Song.
11 Bob Marley – The reggae master hits all the right wedding notes in his song Three Little Birds.
10 Stevie Wonder – Our favorite wedding song by Stevie is You Are The Sunshine Of My Life.  However, a great song just about the bride is Isn’t She Lovely.
09 James Brown – Let’s get everyone to the dance floor and feel good with I Got You (I Feel Good).
08 Elvis Presley – One of the most romantic songs of all time sung in a’capella is Can’t Help Falling In Love.
07 Prince – What a great way to have the bride and groom kiss is every time Prince sing Kiss, the bride and groom must kiss.  This is better than tinging on glasses and ringing bells.
06 Jimi Hendrix – A great song all about ladies for the bouquet toss and all about the ladies present at a wedding reception is Foxey Lady.
05 Bob Dylan – For all the folk fans I don’t think you would be disappointed with I Want You.
04 Rolling Stones – If you want an entrance song, football games commonly began with Start Me Up.  To get people on the dance floor, we suggest Brown Sugar.
03 Led Zeppelin – This is a coin flip for our favorite Led Zeppelin wedding song between Thank You and All Of My Love.
02 Michael Jackson – You could select Thriller as a fantastic group dance.  For a love song we select I Just Can’t Stop Loving You.
01 The Beatles – Being former wedding DJs, the 2 most popular Beattles songs that were most commonly requested were When I’m Sixty-Four and In My Life.

This is our conclusion of our favorite wedding songs by the greatest artists of all-time as ranked by VH1.
