Winter Weddings with Style from Start to Finish

Sep
26

When you begin to plan your wedding, it can certainly be a time that is both exciting and stressful time. There are so many plans that have to be made. There are so many choices to make. You do not want to ruin the once in a lifetime moment by getting too overwhelmed. Instead, you can just take the planning of your wedding step by step. Are you planning a wedding during the winter? Winter weddings can be quite unique and beautiful. They are definitely different from any other ceremony.

winter wedding announcement

Just how do you begin planning winter weddings? It should all start with the announcements. Whether you choose to send out invitations or save the date cards, you will want to make sure that they are perfect. The announcements that you send out should reflect on the theme of the wedding. You can pick out elegant, understated announcements. You can also choose announcements that reflect a magical winter wonderland. Your announcements should set the pace of the whole rest of the wedding.

The next step is to determine colors and decorations for the wedding ceremony. The great thing about winter weddings is that they can include a magical sense that you cannot include in ceremonies during other seasons. There are many choices for colors to include, but to create an icy cold feel, consider silver and pale blue or blue and white. For décor, choose winter themed options. You could consider a stand of winter trees or snowy foliage for the main centerpiece.

You could pick flowers that bloom during the winter or branches of holly or mulberry. Depending on the look you want for your wedding, you can choose simple, understated décor items or you could choose to create a glittering fairytale.

Finally, you can plan the reception. Be sure to continue carrying the theme to the reception as well through table centerpieces and window décor that goes along with winter weddings. You may even want to choose winter related foods, and a wedding cake that incorporates the theme.

Winter weddings can certainly be special in more than one way. You have the chance to create a wedding that will be unique from start to finish. After your wedding day is over, do not forget to send out those thank you cards, and do not forget to continue the theme with winter designed cards for this as well.

PMCustomWeddings.com provides a variety of custom wedding stamps, invitations, and save the date cards to plan your winter wedding!

Wedding Day Survival Kit

Sep
21

wedding survival kit

Wedding days are well thought out.  The whole day is planned down to the last minute; what time to be at the beauty salon, at the ceremony site, what time the ceremony is to start, what time to be at the reception, etc.  But like in life, you need to plan for the unexpected things that happen.  This includes the wedding and the reception.  Things not only go wrong with the bride, but also don’t forget about things that may happen with the groom or other members of the wedding party.  This is why it is important to have a wedding day survival kit.  Wedding day survival kits can be purchased online or you can make your own.  If making your own, here are some of the things you should include:

Clothing repair:

Sewing kit w/scissors

Safety pins

Lint brush

Two-sided tape – good for a quick fix for a falling hem

Pocket size stain removers

Beauty:

Hairspray

Comb or brush

Bobby pins

Mirror

Mascara

Clear nail polish – (also good for stopping runs in the pantyhose)

Earring backs

Health:

Toothbrush and toothpaste

Antacid – for those butterflies

Tissues

Band-Aids – for those blisters from dancing all night

Breath mints

Deodorant

These are just a few things to get you started.  As the bride you may also want to bring along makeup for touchups later in the evening.  This kit doesn’t have to be small enough to carry down the isle.  Most of the items on this list can be found in travel sizes. You just need to make sure someone has control over it and gets it to the wedding and the reception, like the maid of honor or best man.  Hopefully you will not need anything in the kit, or at least very little of it.  But remember it is always better to be prepared for any emergency.

Greatest 14 Wedding Hip Hop Songs

Sep
17

VH1 created a list of the Top 100 Hip Hop Songs of all-time.  We got to thinking and decided to narrow down the list to our favorite wedding songs from that list.  Hip Hip fans can be excited as our list is part of the most memorable and historical songs in music history.  The year the song was released is noted with the rank on the VH1 Hip Hop songs list.  Here’s our list of the greatest 14 wedding hip hop songs.

  • Heavy D. and the Boyz – Now That We Found Love (1991 – Ranked 86).  This a great upbeat song to fill dance floors.  Now That We Found Love would also be a great intro song for the wedding party.
  • PM Dawn – Set Adrift On Memory Bliss (1991 – Ranked 81).  A remix sampling from Spandau Ballet’s True.  Set Adrift On Memory Bliss has a great beat and would make a great background song or slow tempo dance song.
  • House Of Pain – Jump Around (1992 – Ranked 66).  Not for your stereotypical wedding song.  This uptempo song is for a younger crowd but will fill the dance floor.
  • L.L. Cool J – I Need Love (1987 – Ranked 60).  I Need Love is considered the first rap ballad.  A classic slow song that rose to #14 on the Billboard charts.  I Need Love would also be a good Garter Removal song.
  • Young MC – Bust A Move (1989 – Ranked 47).  Bust A Move has been a time tested dance song to fill wedding dance floors.   With a fast tempo beat, wedding guests will want to bust a move to this song.
  • Method Man ft/ Mary J. Blige – I’ll Be There For You/You’re All I Need to Get By (1995 – Ranked 44).  From all the songs listed on the Greatest 100 Hip Hop Songs, this song makes the best choice for first dance song as a married couple.  I’ll Be There For You is based upon the original song sung by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.
  • Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock – It Takes Two (1988 – Ranked 37).  It Take Two is a dance classic to fill dance floors for years to come.  A great party tune for all ages.
  • Nelly – Hot In Herre (2002 – Ranked 36).  This is a great song for the garter removal or for the garter placement.  Hot In Herre is also a fast tempo song to fill dance floors.
  • Queen Latifah ft. Monie Love – Ladies First (1989 – Ranked 35).  We could not leave out a song from one of the most influential women in Hip Hip history.  Ladies First would make a great bouquet toss song.
  • MC Hammer – U Can’t Touch This (1990 – Ranked 26).  This is probably the most recognized Hip Hop/Pop song on the list across all genres.  A great fast tempo dance song to get wedding guests dancing.
  • 50 Cent – In Da Club (2003 – Ranked 18).  This is the newest Hip Hop song on the list.  In Da Club rose to #1 on the Billboard charts and will definitely get wedding guests in the mood to dance.
  • Sir Mix-A-Lot – Baby Got Back (1992 – Ranked 17)  A great fun party songs to fill the dance floor.  It may offend some.  However, there was a viral video on YouTube that showed a bridal couple dancing to this.
  • Run-DMC ft/ Aerosmith – Walk This Way (2001 – Ranked 4).  A great collaboration between Hip Hop and Rock all-stars.  Originally performed by Aerosmith and sampled by Run-DMC.  Wedding guest will want to get their groove on to this mid-tempo song.
  • Sugarhill Gang – Rapper’s Delight (1980 – Ranked #2).  Considered one of the few songs that helped popularize hip hop music.  Rapper’s Delight was revitalized with a skit in the movie The Wedding Singer in 1998.  Not only can you break dance to Rapper’s Delight, many wedding parties plan rehearsed dance moves to this song.

DIY Country-Style Table Decorations

Sep
15

Having a country wedding?  Looking for some table decorations to save some money?  Why not try one of these ideas.

Herb Pots – Go to your neighborhood home and garden center and pick up the following items:  Flower pots of varying sizes, potting soil and either small, already started plants or seeds of different herbs, like basil, oregano, chives, thyme, etc.  You have a couple choices when it comes to the flowerpots.  You can either paint them to match your wedding colors, or leave them natural looking to enhance the country theme.  You can also decorate the pots with different items, like gingham ribbon, or raffia.

potted table decoration

Next, take the pots and partially fill them with potting soil.  Release the starter plants, or take the seeds, and place them into the pots.  Continue to fill the pots with remaining soil until about a half inch from the top edge of the pot. Make sure you give each plant some water.  If you are using seeds instead of starter plants, you need to start this project about 3-4 weeks prior to your wedding.  This way the plants will be large enough to decorate your tables with.  You can also use this same idea with dried flowers if you would like.  Instead of potting soil, use flower foam and cover with moss, but by using real herbs you have the added bonus of the fragrance.  Encourage your guests to take the plants home with them at the end of the reception.

Another idea with a country theme is either burlap or linen gift bags.  You can fill them with goodies.  You have the option to purchase pre-made bags or sew your own.  Check you local craft store, or the Internet, for pre-made bags.  If you choose to sew your own, you will need some linen or burlap material, thread and a sewing machine.  Decide the size you would like your give bags to be.  The easiest way to sew the bag is to cut a strip of material twice the length, plus a ½ inch; you would like the finished product to be at the width plus ½ inch.  For example, if you would like your final gift bag to be 3 x 5 inches, then you need to cut your fabric 3 ½ inches x 10 ½ inches.

Burlap gift bag

First, fold the short ends of your material over ¼ inch and sew a straight line to hold the seam in place.  Next, fold your fabric in half  (long ways) with the right side of the fabric on the inside.  Sew a straight-line ¼ inch from the edge to close the sides.  Do this on both edges.  Turn the bag right side out.  You can now fill each bag with whatever you choose (candy kisses, Jordan Almonds, etc).  You have the option of keeping the gift bags clean and simple or to decorate the outside of each bag.  You can use fabric paints, flowers, embellishments, etc.  Tie each bag closed with some ribbon.

Either of these ideas would look great on a country style reception table.  Think about maybe combining both of these ideas together to make your tables look great.

DIY Wedding Place Cards

Sep
09

Want an interesting do it yourself idea for place cards for your guests?  Try picture frames instead of plain place cards.  You can do many things with the frames.  You can use plain small picture frames and print off your guests’ names in fancy script to put in side the frame.  Try using different colors of papers along with different fonts.  Cut the paper to fit within the frame space or you can also use a mat to fit it into the frame.  Something a little more fun and interesting is to insert photos of your guests, instead of just their names, into the frame. You do not need to have just small frames; you can use any size frame you like.  If you want something with a more personal touch, purchase wooden frames and decorate them yourself to include your own personality or to incorporate the theme of your wedding; even if that only means painting the frame to match your wedding colors.

wedding placecards

Here are some ideas for you to change the look of a plain wooden frame:

Paint the frame a solid color.  Painting or staining the wood provides a bit of protection to the wood.  Let dry and then glue different color and different size buttons all over the frame.  You can apply as many or as few as you like to achieve the desired look.  Painting the frame first allows for the wood to be seen through the buttons.  Maybe you do not like the look of buttons.  How about silk flowers instead?  In this case, make sure the flowers are slightly flat so they will lay better on the frame.

Cut letters or words out of cardstock thick paper.  You can either do this freehand, use a cutting machine made for precise cutting (like a Cricut), or buy already cut words and letters from you local craft store.  Glue the letters/words all over the frame.  When the glue is completely dry, paint over the entire frame and lettering with one color.  When the paint is dry, apply a clear coat protector.

Decoupage is also a great way to change the look of something.  Decoupage glue can be purchased at your local craft store.  Choose a paper pattern.  This can be a napkin, tissue paper, scrapbook paper, magazine page, etc.  Have several pages of the paper to cover the frame completely allowing for overlapping of edges.  Apply glue to small areas of the frame at a time.  Tear pieces of your paper and apply to glue.  Continue process until the entire frame is covered, making sure to overlap each piece slightly.  When entire frame is covered, apply a top coat of the decoupage glue to entire frame.  Allow to dry.  Fabric also works well for this application.

The ideas are endless when it comes to decorating.  Take a walk thru your local craft store and the ideas will jump out at you.

DIY Wedding Centerpieces – Olive Oil Decanters

Sep
07

Looking for a DIY project to add color and sophistication to your wedding decorations?   How about flavor infused oil or vinegar decanters that can act as centerpieces?  This project is very simple, but can add beauty and grace to any table-scape.  Here is all you need for a fantastic centerpiece that is not only beautiful but also useful.

olive oil decanter wedding centerpiece

1.       Sealable bottles or decanters – these can be of any design but you must be able to seal them, either with a cork, screw top, or any other type of cap that fits securely.  Decanters can be of any size or shape you choose.

2.       Oil or vinegar – you can choose from many types of oils including vegetable, canola, or olive but keep in mind the color of the oil.  The darker color of the oil – the less you will be able to see through it.  You also have many options for vinegars.  We recommend buying these products in bulk at your local warehouse food store.  However, you can also support your local olive oil business if one exists.

3.       Flavors – flavors can include many things such as herbs, garlic, peppers, etc.  Fresh ingredients are always best.

4.       Optional decorations – these can include wax for the top of the bottle, ribbons to decorate the outside, custom labels to place on the outside of the decanter with your wedding date and information on it, etc.

The first thing you need to do is choose which flavor you would like to infuse with which product.  For instance, extra virgin olive oil with garlic.  Next choose which bottle you want to use.  Take your flavor and place it in the bottle.  Keep in mind that the more flavor you put in the bottle the more intense your flavor will be in the product (oil or vinegar).  If using garlic, be sure you peal the garlic first.  You do not have to crush or slice the garlic cloves before putting them into the bottle.  Presentation is actually better if you leave the garlic whole.

Next you need to fill the bottle with the oil.  Use a funnel to help with this step so you do not have oil all over the counter or table.  Fill the bottle as close to the top as possible without overfilling the bottle.

Anything after this point is purely decorative.  You can melt wax (found at your local craft store) and dip the top of the bottle into the melted wax.  Be very careful not to burn yourself.  Only dip about the first 1 -2 inches of the bottle.  Let the wax dry.  You can also decorate the outside of the bottle if you choose.  Just remember to keep most of the bottle clear so you can see the contents.

You can choose to put in more than one flavor if you would like.  For instance olive oil, garlic and rosemary make a great combination.  You can also try combining the oil and the vinegar.  They have a different density so they will normally separate in the bottle.  How about ¾ bottle with thyme flavored extra virgin olive oil topped with balsamic vinegar?

Let your imagination take over.  Think about combinations you use in the kitchen and let that be your guide.  The combinations are endless.

Benefits of an Online Wedding Gift Registry

Sep
01

Wedding gift registries are the latest trend among couples these days. A fairly new option, the wedding gift registry helps couples convey their wishes in terms of what they want as gifts. Wedding gift registries are gaining popularity among couples as without them, most often than not, the couple will end up receiving many same types of items, or something that they don’t like or don’t require. With gift registries, the couple can inform the guests about their exact requirements.

wedding gift registry

If you too wish to benefit from a wedding registry then you need to consider certain things. First, you need to know what you both have in the combining household before registering with the website. This is important; as the couple may be have certain items of their own, say a new toaster, oven, refrigerator etc., so it is advised to list your combined belongings so that you don’t put up anything on the gift registry that you both already own. Next comes picking the right wedding registry, which can either be a store or an online wedding registry.

If you have time, then you can go into a store to set up your registry, but if you both are working professionals, then a registry website will be the best option. A registry online will not only save you time and energy, but it will also be extremely convenient for your guests to browse through. Another major benefit of an online registry is automatic notifications, i.e. you can announce your wedding registry through emails and whenever anyone purchases anything on the wish list of your registry, you will get email notifications for the same.

The online wedding registry sites are very user friendly and you may even get a checklist of items that you would like to have on your wish list, right after you sign up your account on them. Not only that, certain websites even allow you to create links for Wedding or Honeymoon funds, wherein the guests can contribute in your events and this money is transferred to your PayPal account without any trouble. You can then transfer the money to your regular bank account.

A wedding gift registry can prove to be a great option to help you make your dream of a perfect wedding or honeymoon come true. If you have always been dreaming of honeymooning in Costa Rica with turquoise water and white sandy beaches, or cuddling in each other’s arms in the romantic gondola in Venice, or lazing under the sun in Hawaii, all this can be a reality with wedding gift registry. For this, you simply have to consult various travel agencies providing wedding gift registries or check out online honeymoon bridal registries. Once you sign up with them, your guests will be allowed to check different options like airfare, accommodations, car rentals, romantic dinners, tours etc., and they can pick the package according to their wishes for you.

Many websites also provide coupons and promotional codes that will help you to buy products from their online store at discounted rates. So, what are you waiting for, go ahead, create your wedding gift registry and spread the word among family and friends.
