Ideas to Plan a Wedding on a Shoestring Budget

Aug
30

Gone are the times, when getting married used to mean breaking the bank and spending lavishly to make the event grand. People are far more practical these days, and they are particular about on what they want to spend and on what things they want to save. If you are on tight budget for your wedding, and are worried that you will not be able to make a memorable wedding event, then you are wrong. With lots of creativity and ingenious ways to curb down the expenses, you can have a beautiful wedding, even on a shoestring budget.

wedding budget

Skip booking a hotel or venue and organize the wedding in your backyard

To begin with, the first money-saving idea would be to do away with the idea of booking a hotel or club and organizing your wedding in your backyard or that of your future spouse. In case neither of you have a backyard that you can bank on, then borrow the backyard of someone close to you. You can transform a dull backyard into a lavish wedding venue with a little creativity, just take care that it is big enough to accommodate your guests comfortably.

Cut down the guest list to suit your budget

To further curtail the wedding expenses, you should stick to inviting just the closest family members and friends; without whom your wedding is not possible. Trimming down the guest list will help you to not only save in terms of wedding venue, but also on wedding favors, invitations, catering and much more.

Opt for DIY wedding favors

If you are good with crafts, then there is nothing better than do it yourself wedding favors. But, if you are not among the talented ones, then simply browse through several DIY online websites to find some simple DIY wedding favors that you can do. They will not only be inexpensive, but will also allow you to add a personal touch to the favors, making them unique and memorable.

Go without catering service and cook yourself

Yes, you read it right. You can opt to cook yourself and even seek assistance of family and friends to save on the catering expenses, especially if you guys are as good as any chef and cook. If you can’t cook the entire meal due to time constraints, then at least try baking the wedding cake yourself, as the cake itself comprises a huge part of your food budget in the wedding.

Shop online for bridal items and accessories for incredible discounts

With lots of competition, online marketplaces are the best place to get amazing discount deals on bridal accessories. Be sure to deal with a renowned online store with secure monetary transaction feature to avoid any scams, and you will be just fine.

Choose wedding items that serve multiple purposes

You can select edible centerpieces for tables or make the wedding favors double as centerpieces for the tables.

Borrow the wedding gown from your mom

Wearing your mom’s wedding gown not only saves you money, it also makes your walk down the aisle more meaningful. You may choose to have some alterations done on the dress to make it more updated in terms of fashion style.

Be wise when selecting the wedding ring

Opt for white or yellow gold wedding rings rather than going for platinum or titanium options, if you want to go light on the price tag. Although, platinum rings are durable, the gold rings look as elegant as platinum ones and are less costly.

Select your wedding date in off-season

Getting married in off-season is the best way to lower your wedding expenses, as you will get everything right from catering, venue, flowers, wedding gown to other wedding essentials, at must less prices as compared to peak season.

Last but not the least, is becoming your own wedding planner to save on the expenses of hiring one. You can also take help from your friends and family to lower your burden.

Things to Consider When Selecting Wedding Rings

Aug
25

Selecting the wedding rings or wedding bands is the most vital part of the wedding, as it is considered as the true symbol of a marriage. Wedding rings are exchanged by the couple when performing their nuptials, as a reminder of their love and commitment forever and ever.

wedding rings

There are several traditional rituals associated with wedding bands. A ring bearer, if there is any, has to walk down the aisle bearing the wedding rings on a wedding ring pillow, which is often intricately designed with embroidery to make it fancy along with ribbons to tie the rings down. The ribbon is usually used as the ring bearer is often a young boy, who might not be able to balance the rings properly on the pillow without fastening them with the ribbons. In some traditions, the best man takes care of the wedding rings and hand them over to the priest during the ceremony, who pass the rings to the bride and groom for the wedding vows.

Given that wedding bands hold so much importance and will be cherished for the rest of your life, due consideration should be given when selecting the rings. Whether you are choosing the ring from a family heirloom or an online website, you need to keep in mind the preference of the future bride or groom, before making the choice. You can also opt for wedding band sets, which are a rage these days for being a matching piece of jewelry; the band for the man is little different and is usually wider and thicker though, while the woman’s ring is sleek and thinner. However, make sure that you both like the design of the bands, when choosing the wedding band sets. Moreover, you might also want to ensure that the wedding rings matches with the engagement ring, but it may become difficult to select ring for the man.

When it comes to selecting the type of wedding rings, diamond rings are creating a buzz all over, and the most popular ones are bands with small diamonds set into it. Many couples often overlook the importance of engraving the wedding rings. Don’t miss the fun of getting something secret engraved and revealing it on your special day. You may choose, anything for engraving, like wedding dates, ‘I love you’, ‘eternally yours’, your pet names, small love quote etc.; just let your imaginations work for you. But, don’t forget to keep it a secret as no one else but your partner has to know about what you engraved.

Once you are done with the style of the ring, it is time to select the wedding band material. Although platinum and gold are commonly used materials for wedding rings, but gold is mostly preferred as platinum may be quite expensive and heavier. In gold, you have the option to choose from different colors, yellow gold, white gold, or the trendier rose, red or pink gold. Next is the selection of karat, wherein 10k, 14k, 18k and 22k are commonly used for wedding rings.

Last but not the least, is to ensure that the ring is comfortable as you will be wearing it forever. Always choose a timeless design that stays in trend forever.

Plan in Advance for Your Wedding Themes

Aug
23

If you wish to make your wedding unique and add some personality to it, then a wedding theme is the key. You need to consider certain things before choosing a wedding theme for yourself, as it requires meticulous planning to make it work. Although planning the wedding can be enthusiastic, it can become very stressful for you if you are not able to handle all things on time. If you want a wedding theme, then you should plan ahead with the ideas.

First, you need to see what time of year your wedding is slated for, before finalizing a wedding theme idea. For instance, if you have always dreamed of a winter wonderland theme, it won’t work out if your wedding is going to be in the middle of summer. If you are sure about what kind of theme you want, then it is advised that you book your wedding for that time of year, when your wedding theme best fits with the season.

theme wedding

Choose a place, as per the theme, for your wedding well in advance. For instance, if you are opting for a 20’s look, then you might rather select a place that has a 20’s look, like an underground club or restaurant, instead of a Tudor-esque castle. Once you are done with the venue selection, you need to consider the lights, decorations and colors. Unlike what many people think, wedding theme does not necessarily mean time, place, or era, it may also mean a particular decoration and/or color to create a theme. The tablecloths, flowers and other decorative items can add splash of colors to your venue and create a unique wedding theme.

You can also use your culture as the theme for your wedding, if you are passionate. If you and your partner are of different origins and culture, then blending both the cultures will not only create a personalized wedding theme, but also makes yours and your partner’s family members happy and delighted. Not only that, culture themes are affordable, easy to plan and suit all budgets comfortably. In culture theme, you need to focus on the food served, and you can include local dishes, like add sushi and noodles for Japanese weddings; add haggis, neeps and tatties for Scottish weddings; and curries, chappatis (Indian bread), sweets for Indian weddings and so on.

Besides food, you should also consider other factors as well so that they perfectly match with your wedding theme; music is the most important among them, especially if you are choosing a theme based on culture or a particular decade. You will have to select the sound tracks of that particular origin or era to reflect it. However, if your theme is based on colors and decorations, say white, red, orange, purple or yellow wedding, then you need not worry about the music and you can go for your favorite and latest tracks. Moreover, your wedding favors should also be in line with the wedding theme, as it will help your guests get a personalized touch and make your wedding memorable for not only you, but also everyone who attends it.

10 Mistakes in Wedding Planning

Aug
18

Wedding is undeniably amongst the most important occasion in a person’s life and every couple wants to ensure that everything is perfect when they say their vows to live with each other forever. There are certain mistakes that should be avoided in a wedding to make it a dream wedding, and we feel that these are among the top ones:

wedding planning

1.       Having high demands from wedding party members – Even if bridesmaids and groomsmen offer you extra help, don’t take excess advantage of them. The have offered to help you not do everything.  You need to understand that their only obligations are providing you emotional supports, participating in rehearsal, expense of wedding attire and travel and off course the role on the day of the wedding and maybe the reception toasts.

2.       Stretching yourself too thin -  Being a bride can sometimes become pretty hard having to plan and prioritize all the things and finalizing the details and it is better to seek help before you end up putting everything off and expect our friends and family to pick up the pieces.

3.       Working without guidance – Without any guidance there will be too many details given to too many people  Either make sure that you are well organized or think about hiring a wedding coordinator. He/she will single handily coordinate your wedding party, music, minister, seating arrangements etc., which in turn will ease your stress level.

4.       Bachelor or Bachelorette party the night before your wedding – Never organize the party to enjoy your end of single-hood the night before the wedding  Many brides and grooms have a tendency to over due the party and this may leave you looking tired with a hangover the next day.

5.       Honeymoon right after the wedding – Don’t venture on your honeymoon right after the wedding, as you will be exhausted and little disorderly the following day after all the wedding planning and preparation. Take a couple of days to rest.

6.       Getting the wedding dress at the last minute – Don’t wait till last minute for having your wedding dress shipped.  Schedule your first fitting way before your wedding and final fitting at least a week before the wedding so that alterations can be made.

7.       Prioritize and prioritize – Getting your priorities straight to know what you want the most, the music, photographer, food and wine, decorations or accommodating large guest list is a good thing. If you are not footing the bill yourself, you will have to forfeit certain decisions when it comes to finance and you will need to adjust on certain priorities or else pay for it.

8.       Don’t set up an all Cash Bar – You should select the alcohol to be served at the reception as per your personal preference and budget.  The guests should be courteous enough to accept whatever is offered and if they need something else, they will definitely get it themselves.

9.       Wearing too high heels – As a bride, you will have to stand for long hours on your wedding day, so it is better to go flat or a lower heel for comfort. Moreover, wear your wedding shoes before the wedding, as you may get blisters in new shoes.

10.   Don’t give too many instructions – You should not micromanage the wedding DJ, caterer or the photographer. They are professionals, so simply tell them your preferences and leave the rest to them.

Wedding planning requires lots of work out and thorough consideration of the budget to ensure that you get everything done perfectly without burning a hole in your pocket.

Making the Wedding Shower Perfect

Aug
17

Wedding showers or bridal showers are an important part of a wedding and it is basically a small party thrown in the honor of the bride. Usually only one wedding shower is enough for a wedding, but you may have a couple of smaller parties if you have lots of guests or you want to throw separate parties for different ‘circles’ or groups. The bridal shower can be arranged by anyone close to the bride, including maid of honor, bridesmaids, friends, or relative. Although it can be thrown by anyone close, as per the tradition the mother of the bride should not organize the bridal shower.

bridal shower

The size and style or theme of the party can be anything you can imagine, right from a fancy one to a more casual gathering. You can even arrange the party as per the choice of the bride.  Whichever will make her happy. You can give gifts to the bride through her registry, linens, towels and other common things on the wish list, however, many wedding showers are more of a bachelorette party meant for fun, which may include gifts that can be used on the honeymoon.

Most bridal showers include some kind of games.  You can find basic ideas online or you may talk to friends who have been to bridal showers earlier to get some idea. If you are adventurous, and so is the bride, you can be a bit more creative by including certain fun filled activities like belly dancing, pole dancing. The activity may be anything that is fun and easy to learn or follow along.  Do not forget that not all the guests are going to be the same age group as the bride, for instance if going for an adventurous game don’t forget the mother of the bride or groom.

One thing not to forget is the bridal shower invitations, which are most often sent by the one who takes responsibility of arranging the bridal shower. You can directly ask the bride about the guests and who she wants to invite and you may even ask the mothers of the bride and groom. Seeking help of close friends to figure out the guest list will make sure that you don’t leave someone out or forget to invite someone close to the bride. While making the wedding shower guest list, you should also take into consideration the size of the venue where you will be organizing the wedding shower as you will have to see if you can accommodate everyone. If you cannot cut down the guest list, then it is better that you select a bigger venue. Whatever you do, remember to include friends and family from the groom’s side of the family also.

For the bridal shower, you can simply send a basic invitation card along with a RSVP card, or with details about the ways to respond to the invitee. You can also send online invitations; these are very easy to arrange for as there several websites that will design and manage your invitations hassle free. However, it is important that you ensure that everyone that you are sending invitations to, have access to computer and e-mailing facility to ensure that everyone gets the invitation.

Whatever, you choose to do or whatever way you arrange the bridal showers, just always remember that it is supposed to be fun activity and something that makes the bride appreciate your efforts and make her feel special.

How to Achieve Perfect Bridal Makeup?

Aug
13

Every girl wants to look beautiful on her wedding day, and make up is one of the ways to achieve the look that every girl desires. According to beauticians, the perfect look for any bride should be natural and fresh with a tinge of glamour that helps highlight her best features. Bridal make up should be flawless and long lasting to stand up to the whole day ahead. Anyone can achieve this look by following some simple steps and using the right makeup products.

bride makeup

Some steps to achieve that perfect look are to hire a professional makeup artist and follow a pre wedding regime that will diminish any imperfections you may have on your skin. The makeup artist will tell you about dos and don’ts you should follow the days before your wedding day. Here are some instructions that every beautician suggests brides follow for a perfect look.

  • Get a facial done two to three weeks before the wedding in order to deep cleanse your skin; it helps skin breathe and glow properly.
  • Properly exfoliate entire body along with your face to remove dead skin cells and soften the skin surface.
  • If you have problems with breakouts and blemishes, treat them with tea tree oil and Aloe Vera gel for soothing the affected area.
  • Use a hydrating mask before the wedding to make your skin look fresh and glowing.

Start working with your makeup artist days or weeks before the wedding to highlight your best features and conceal the imperfections. Avoid alcohol, carbonated drinks, caffeine, and cigarette and replace them with 8-10 glasses of water, fresh fruits and vegetables to help hydrate skin.

Before starting the makeup, apply moisturizer properly on your entire face. Apply it to the face and neck, but leave the under eye area. Moisturizer keeps your skin soft and supple and creates a protective base. Apply foundation with a moisturizer and sun protection feature; it will help your make up last longer and make you look fresh throughout the day. The best way to look flawless is to use concealer, which is used to hide flaws including dark circles, dark spots, redness, scars, and small pimples. Avoid using too much of it as it can make you look fake and unnatural. Next, apply translucent powder; it helps you take away any unwanted shine and also helps set your foundation. Then, apply blush on cheekbones to bring a natural looking glow to your face.

Eyes are one of the most appealing parts of women’s body. You can make your eyes more glamorous using eyelash curler, mascara, eye shadow, and eyeliner. Choose your eye make according to your eye’s shape and skin tone. If your eyes are small you can make them look big by using right kind of eye makeup. Talk to your beautician/make-up artist about the features that you want to highlight the most.  Last but not least, use oil free and waterproof make so that your make up remains fresh all day long.  Always remember, more is not always better especially when it comes to make-up.

Get Right Wedding Flowers For Your Wedding

Aug
09

Wedding flowers play an imperative part in wedding decorations and create a beautiful and fragrant environment at the time of wedding. Generally, flowers for decoration are picked to matching the flowers of bouquet that the bride carries while walking the aisle. However, one can select  flowers suiting the theme of the wedding or according to one’s personal taste. There is no hard and fast rule of picking flowers, but still one should consider the theme or bride’s bouquet to create symmetry and attractive look of the venue.

wedding flowers

While choosing the flowers, keep your personal choices in your mind. If you do not have much information about flowers and decorations then talk to your florist. He may be able to lend you some good ideas about how to combine flowers  in order to make a perfect bunch of flowers for every corner. Ask your florist to show you some samples or pictures so you can see a practical example what he wants to explain. This is how you will get the idea about what kind of flower will be apt for your wedding as per your decoration and budget.

It would be good to talk to florist in advance before you stick to a specific kind of flower for your wedding. Flowers are seasonal and if you are demanding flowers that are not readily available in the season you may still be able to get those flowers but it going to cot you more. If you really need a particular flower which is hard to find,  consult your florist to suggest an alternative  flower in order to create the same style and feel that you wanted for your wedding. However, there are some popular flowers such as roses, lilies, and orchids, that can be found all-year round. One way to compromise for both style and cost is to  select at least two types of seasonal flowers and add in your special order flowers to save on costs.

If you are going for a theme wedding then half of your toil of searching for flowers is reduced. Nowadays, many couples are opting for theme weddings and decorate the venue with the flowers that complement that theme.  For instance, if the beach wedding is your theme, then go for the flowers like orchids, bird of paradise, roses, blue muscari, lavender rose, blue hydrangea, and palm branches. These flowers are ideal due to their capability of staying fresh for longer periods of time in hot and tropical environments.

You can also select flowers and ribbons matching to the color of the bridesmaid’s dresses. This will create a symmetrical and appealing look of the venue. However, at times the venue is decorated according to bride’s bouquet. One can also keep bridesmaids bouquets of the same flowers as the bride’s. Do not get carried away with the flower decorations as other things are also important in the wedding. Before settling for a particular type of flower, look at your budget. It will be extremely helpful for you and your florist if you plan the decorations according to the budget. This helps you both in selecting the suitable decoration to get the best value for your money.

How to choose the right cake for your wedding?

Aug
05

Cake cutting is one of the main ceremonies of a wedding reception. Every guest anxiously waits to see bride and groom cutting the wedding cake. Not many people leave the party before this ceremony.  A wedding cake is more than just a cake cutting tradition, the wedding cake is a memory, which will be featured in many of your wedding photographs. The wedding cake also reflects your persona; you can implement many unique and creative ways to decorate your wedding cake, making it more memorable. Thus, you should give some time and thought before picking the perfect wedding cake for your wedding reception.

wedding cake

wedding cake

Before deciding to buy a cake, make a list of all the things that are important for your dream wedding cake. Keep three things in mind such as flavor, cake fillings and looks.  Also consider size, number of tiers and decorations or theme. There are endless numbers of flavors available in the market to choose from.  These may include cheesecake, carrot cake, red velvet, or traditional chocolate and vanilla. However, party etiquette says the host should select a cake according to the taste of its guests. So, if you are confused which cake should mark your wedding reception then consider having each tier in a different flavor.

When you start looking for cakes, keep the filling flavors of your cake in mind. Do some research on the filling and cake flavor combinations you may be considering.  Keep in mind that not all cake flavors will go with all filling flavors. Cake fillings not only enhance cake’s beauty but taste as well. You can ask your baker to guide you in this matter. There are several types of fillings that you can select to make your wedding cake delicious and yummy. The range of filling flavors include fresh fruit, chocolate, vanilla, cream cheese, and many others.  Don’t forget your frosting.  There are different types of frosting to choose from.  Your baker will be able to help you with all the different combinations out there.

Next tip you should always keep in mind is that never have a cake, which is too small or too big in size. It is always good to have a look at the list of guests before buying a cake. Keep ten to 12 extra guests in consideration, in case a few people make a last moment decision to come to your party.  The wedding cake tends to become one of the focal points of your reception, keep this in mind when designing your cake.  But make sure you have a cake that fits you or your theme.  Last but not least, start preparation for your wedding cake early in the planning process.  There are a lot of decisions to be made and you need to have plenty of time for cake tasting and research.
