VH1′s Best Videos of 2010

Jan
29

Are looking for current songs for your wedding and/or wedding reception.  Be sure to check out VH1′s list below of the best videos of 2010.  The official release is on the VH1 blog.

  1. Train – Hey Soul Sister.  This is a great pop rock song released in August 2009 but stayed strong in 2010.  Hey Soul Sister has a make you feel good rhythm and has a catchy tune.
  2. The Script – Breakeven.  A great pop rock song but this song is about break-up.  Therefore, not a good theme for weddings.
  3. Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg – California Gurls.  This is a great dance tune that will fill the dance floor.  California Gurls is a beach themed song but may offend girls from New York?
  4. Adam Lambert – Whataya Want From Me (Concept).  The runner-up winner on American Idol in 2009 stays in the heart of Americans in 2010.  Depending on the crowd the song could fill the dance floor with this song.
  5. Lady Gaga – Bad Romance.  The theme of Bad Romance is not for weddings but will guarantee to fill the dance floor with this dance hit.
  6. Lady Antebellum – With Need You Now.  “Lady Ant” makes the crossover from country to pop stars.  A great slower tempo song about how we need someone after a night of partying.
  7. Usher feat. Will.iAm – OMG.  OMG is a great R&B dance tune that will fill the dance floor.
  8. Eminem feat. Rihanna – Love The Way You Lie.  This is one of my favorite songs of 2010 with true feeling but not fitting for weddings.
  9. P!nk – Raise Your Glass.  We have another anthem by P!nk with raise your glass.  Even though it has varied tempo, should get guests in the party mood.  You can also use this song as a toast song during a wedding reception.
  10. Bruno Mars – Just The Way You Are.  This song has a great beat and theme.  Perfect for any wedding.  If you want an up-tempo first dance song, this may be your song.  Be sure to check out the video of this song too.  It would rank as our #1.
  11. Ke$ha – Tik Tok.  One of the best dance songs of 2010.  Tik Tok is a great way to get the party started.
  12. B.O.B. feat. Hayley Williams – Airplanes.  Another song full of emotion that we like the theme.  To be played at weddings depends on what guests are dancing to.
  13. Rihanna – Only Girl In the World.  Rihanna releases another dance hit sure to fill wedding reception dance floors.  The bride is the only girl in the world on her big day.
  14. Michael Buble – Haven’t Met You Yet.  We really like Michael Buble but the song theme is how you haven’t met the right person yet.  Not a great wedding theme but maybe for all the single people.
  15. Taylor Swift – Mine.  This pop country mega superstar scores another hit with Mine.  This mid-tempo song may be difficult to dance to but has the right wedding theme.
  16. Jay-Z & Alicia Keys – Empire State of Mind.  A true theme for New York City.  May not be appropriate for many weddings but definitely in NYC.
  17. Christina Perri – Jar of Hearts.  This is a beautiful slow song but the theme is not appropriate for weddings.  Collecting your jar of hearts, tearing love apart – No.
  18. Maroon 5 – Misery.  Misery is another song to leave off wedding play lists.  Misery, enough said.
  19. John Mayer – Heartbreak Warfare.  This is not a recommended wedding song.  This song is about the pain of love.
  20. Katy Perry – Firework.  This is a make you feel good song.  However, with it’s mixed tempo makes it hard to dance to.  If you want it played at your reception, we recommend looking for dance remixes.
  21. Paramore – The Only Exception.  This is a  romantic love song.  Perfect for any slow song play list for weddings.
  22. Drake – Find Your Love.  If you want a mid-tempo R&B song with a good groove for your wedding, this is it.  However, the tempo may keep some people off the dance floor.
  23. Daughtry – September.  Another American Idol star rocks on this ballad.  For the rock and roll fan, this is a great current hit to fill dance floors.
  24. Jason Derulo – In My Head.  A great R&B dance tune.  This song can get many generations on the dance floor.
  25. Travie McCoy feat. Bruno Mars – Billionaire.  Yes, everyone wants to be rich.  This song has a Caribbean vibe – if that’s the theme of your wedding, this song is perfect.
  26. Sara Bareilles – King of Anything.  This song has a good beat but not the appropriate theme for a wedding.
  27. Mumford & Sons – Little Lion Man.  Another song with much emotion.  The song theme and musical accompaniment is not your stereotypical wedding song.
  28. Linkin Park – Waiting For The End.  I don’t need to tell you this is not a wedding song.  However, the video and song are totally awesome and should be higher on the list by VH1.
  29. Train – If It’s Love.  Train keeps moving the hearts of many.  This song theme fits in with weddings.  If it is going to fill the dance floor depends on the guests.  Otherwise, If It’s Love makes a great background song.
  30. Usher feat. Pitbull – DJ Got US Falling In Love.  One of the best dance songs for wedding receptions with the perfect theme.  Dance like it’s the last night of your life!
  31. Lady Gaga feat Beyonce – Telephone.  Two blockbuster stars collaborate on Telephone.  A dance song to keep guests on the dance floor – if the telephones stop ringing.
  32. Kings of Leon – Radioactive.  We really like K.O.L. but this rock song is not a great wedding song.
  33. Adam Lambert – If I Had You.  This is a good dance song by Adam.  The only problem with this song is its intermittent tempo.
  34. Mike Posner – Cooler Than Me.  This is a great dance song.  You can even hand out sunglasses, which would make a great prop to this song.
  35. Kid Rock – Born Free.  A true make you feel good American song.  This song makes a great crossover between rock and country.
  36. Eminem – Not Afraid.  Eminem is arguably one of the most influential music artists the last decade.  This song is a youth anthem but not fitting for weddings.
  37. Jack Johnson – At or With Me.  We really like Jack but this of course is not a wedding themed song.
  38. Sugarland – Stuck Like Glue.  This country song is a wedding themed song that makes you feel good with a great rhythm.  Being a mid-tempo song, it may be hard for some to dance to.
  39. Taio Cruz feat. Ludacris – Break Your Heart.  Our last dance song on the list will also fill dance floors.  However, the song is about how he’s only going to break your heart.
  40. Muse – Resistance.  A U2 type video but not made for weddings.

More Ideas about a Green Wedding

Jan
24

Green weddings are very popular around the country.  Brides and grooms want to be socially concience.  It doesn’t matter if you spend $5,000 or $50,000.  Decisions can be made in the purchasing process to be more environmentally friendly.  We would like to offer a few suggestions to help you on your way.

1) Hire a photogrpher that takes all pictures in digital format.  This way there is no need for proofing indivually printed pictures as no pictures are printed.  All pictures taken can be viewed online!  If you are going to have a photo album, consider albums with recycled materials such as the paper and album cover.

2) Just as in hand-made products, so are some services such as musicians.  Brides and Grooms can hire accoustic music players for their ceremony like harpists, guitarists, violinists and more.  This way there is no use of electricity.  If you do hire music entertainment, the shorter driving distance the better.  Also, check if they use energy efficient sound equipment and LED lighting.

3) Wedding dresses are one of the most important purchases for brides.  One green option is to wear a previously worn dress by another family member.  If you happen to purchase a dress, select organic materials such as bamboo and hemp silk.  For Grooms, consider renting a tuxedo versus purchasing one.  Also, consider purchasing dress shoes that you can wear over and over again or just rent with your tuxedo.

4) A green option in food and drink is purchasing organic food.  Ask food suppliers like bakers and caterers if they purchase organic food.  Organic foods are produced without chemicals and avoid environmentally destructive actions.  Some manufacturers of drinks such as champagne, wine and beer offer certified organic products.

5)  Be sure to recycle as much as you can at your wedding reception.  Items to recycle include bottles, cans, paper products, and cardboard.  In addition, what about sending any leftover food to charity?  Check to see if your venues also support recycling projects.

6) When creating gift registries, green offerings include donations to charity.  We can recommend two websites that let wedding planners choose from a number of charities to make donations, I Do Foundation and JustGive.  Another suggestion is to create registries at stores that offer items made from sustainable products or refurbished products.  Green gift registries can be created through stores like Branch, Greenfeet, GreenSage, Relish and Restoration Hardware.  Brides and Grooms can create a registry with sustainable building products for their home.

7) Wedding reception venues can be decorated beautifully with green products.  Green decor items include bamboo plants, soy candles, recycled glassware and tableware and real flowers from a local grower.  Table centerpieces can also be made with recycled materials or pre-owned.

8) Finally, there are many great reycled paper products available.  We know invitaions are available on Etsy that contain seeds that can be planted after the wedding.  Besides the invition itself, you can also find 100% recycled paper for envelopes, R.S.V.P. cards and other inserts.

Groom’s Personal Checklist

Jan
18

Grooms are typically forgotten about the day of the wedding. The main focus is and should be on the bride. However, there is more for the groom than just showing up. The day of the wedding is very stressful and full of to-dos. We suggest that grooms put together an overnight bag and stuff it in the car that will be at the wedding (if the scenario permits). This way, all of the groom’s personal items will be at the wedding and reception.

  • Wedding rings
  • Vows – What the groom says to the bride during the ceremony if the bridal couple will say your own. This is more than saying ‘I Do’ or ‘I Will’
  • Toasts – If the groom wants to offer a toast to his bride or to the bridal couple’s guests at the wedding reception.
  • Wallet (Driver’s license, Credit Cards)
  • Cologne
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, breath mints
  • Tuxedo or suit (with all components such as tie, jacket, vest, shirt, pants, cumberbun, belt, etc)
  • Shoes, socks, underwear (with extra pairs)
  • Deotorant
  • Razor (or electric shaver) and shaving cream
  • Medications (Tums is also nice to have as a back-up)
  • contact lenses or glasses (spare sets also recommended)
  • Cash (don’t forget about tipping wedding services)
  • Hair products such as gel, comb, hair spray

Top 7 In Memory Of Songs

Jan
06

People come and go, but their memories will live on.  It is very difficult for a bride and groom to have a special loved one pass early and not be able to physically attend their wedding.  Therefore, we have assembled a list of our favorite in memory of songs.  The songs, can be played during the wedding ceremony or the wedding reception.  For a complete list of in memory of songs, please visit our web page of our Top 90 In Memory Of Songs.

1. My Heart Will Go On – Celine Dion This was the main theme song of the movie Titanic.  The song is about how to carry on after the death of a loved one.

2. People Are Crazy – Billy Currington This is our oddball pick but one of our favorites.  The song is about a man meeting a second man in a bar and the second man passes away.  The chorus of the song is said by the second man at the bar – God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.  The first man leaves a six-pack on the dead man’s grave out of respect.

3. When I Look To The Sky – Train This song is a great current mainstream rock song.  A great phrase in the song “When I look to the sky,  something tells me you’re here with me and you make everything alright”.

4. Arlington – Trace Atkins This is a great military themed song.  Our soldiers are our heroes and should be remembered and never forgotten.  They have provided us our freedom.

5. Gone Too Soon – Michael Jackson This song was dedicated to the memory of Micheal’s friend Ryan White, who was expelled from school for having HIV/AIDS.

6. One More Day – Diamond Rio This is a great generic song for all the loved ones lost too early.  One More Day is themed around having just one more day  with a deceased friend or loved one and what we would do if we had the day.

7. Tears In Heaven – Eric Clapton Eric wrote this song after the passing of his son.  Our favorite phrase in the song is as follows: “Beyond the door, there’s peace I’m sure, and I know there’ll be no more, tears in heaven.
