[1] For buildings 1,001-10,000 square feet a US average Kwh electricity usage and cubic feet of Natural Gas per square foot is used, see table C21 and C31 at: (http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cbecs/cbecs2003/detailed_tables_2003/detailed_tables_2003.html).

[2] US average kWh emission factor is 0.676 Mt/MWh (http://www.eia.doe.gov/oiaf/1605/pdf/Appendix%20F_r071023.pdf), standard line loss for electricity transmission is 7.2% (http://climatetechnology.gov/library/2003/tech-options/tech-options-1-3-2.pdf), and 2205 lbs/Mt.

[3] 1000 ft^3 of Natural Gas equals 10 therms, 1 therm equals 100,000 BTUs, 0.001304 lbs CO2/BTU (http://www.eia.doe.gov/oiaf/1605/coefficients.html), and 2205 lbs equals 1 metric ton.

[4] Estimated average of 21 MPG for US vehicle, 25.34 lbs CO2e/gallon of gasoline (Argonne National labs GREET model), and 2205 lbs equals 1 metric ton.

[5] Emissions factors for short, medium, long, and extended flights (0.64. 0.45, 0.39, and 0.39 lb CO2/mile, respectively) are taken from the World Resources Institute GHG Protocol for Mobile Sources (http://www.ghgprotocol.org/). Short flights are up to 300 miles, medium flights are 300-900 miles, long flights are 900-2,500 miles, and extended flights are over 2,500 miles (single-leg distances). We also include a Radiative Forcing Index of 2.7 (IPCC 2007). 2205 lbs equals 1 metric ton.

[6] Inner city commuting buses emit 0.66 lbs CO2 per passenger mile, and long distance bus trips emit 0.18 lbs CO2 per passenger mile (WRI: Employee commuting spreadsheet) and 2205 lbs equals 1 metric ton.

[7] Emissions associated with a one night stay in a hotel room are calculated at 29.53 kg CO2 per room per day for an average hotel. For upscale hotels, emissions are calculated at 33.38 kg CO2 per room per day. (Environmental Protection Agency) and 1000 kg equal 1 metric ton.

[8] Cascadia Consulting calculator for emissions associated with recycled paper content. These emissions do not include printing emissions (if you want to learn more about printing emissions please visit the Economic Input-Output Life Cycle Assessment calculator from the Carnegie Mellon Green Design Institute (www.eiolca.net) for 'stationary and product related manufacturing' for 'paper' and 'commercial printing' for 'printing').

[9] Food, flowers, and waste carry a high assumption burden. For the purposes of this calculator it was assumed that 0.00329 Mt CO2e/average meal, 0.0004566 Mt CO2e/average waste of person (proportion based on number of meals), that one bouquet of flowers is the same as one meal, that an emission reduction of 36% results if meals are local, organic, or vegetarian and that an emission reduction of 33% results if the waste is recycled or composted. These values are based off of average food consumption and waste values of (http://bie.berkeley.edu/calculator.htm) and average emission reduction estimates from the University of Chicago, Cornell, and EPA.

[10] WeddingMuseum.com has assessed and offset its greenhouse gas emissions for 2009. It has aimed to reduce it's emissions by 5% in 2010. WeddingMuseum.com was Climate Neutral in 2009 and has committed to the same endeavor in 2010.
