Top 120 Country Songs for Weddings
These are the Best Country Songs for Weddings to get people on the dance floor! Country music, also known as country and western, started in America in the early twenties. Folk music was taken to the next level to create country music. Since then, country music takes on many different styles and genres such as rockabilly, bluegrass, honky tonk, country rock and the latest version country pop. Country rock started in America in the late Sixties and carried through the Seventies and into recent decades with music artists such as The Eagles, Alabama and Garth Brooks.
From western films of the 30’s and 40’s we were brought singing cowboys such as Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. The popular form of country in the 40’s was western swing. Western swing is a combination of jazz, big band, blues, and others. It is determined that western swing was responsible for introducing the steel guitar into country music. Honky tonk style music is what helped describe country music throughout the years with topics of loving another, lost loves, beer drinking, and our faithful companions. Another genre of country music was outlaw country, categorized by artists that called themselves outlaws. The Outlaw Movement grew with artists such as Conway Twitty, The Charlie Daniels Band, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson. Finally, with the dawn of the movie Urban Cowboy in the 80’s, country music sparked toward being more pop-like. Pop country became mainstream with artists such as Dolly Parton, Eddie Rabbitt and Kenny Rogers.
The vast majority of country music has been produced and recorded in Nashville, Tennessee since 1925. What later became known as the Grand Ol' Opry, started in 1925. To this day, entrance into the Grand Ol’ Opry family is a very prestigious accomplishment. With the beginning of radio broadcast in the 1930's, everyone with a radio was exposed to the country style music. The Opry also helped promote country artists with its live stage broadcasts. Just as everyone adored rock and roll stars in the mid-fifties, so too were country stars starting in the 30's. The early musicians to make their trek to Nashville and become stars included Kitty Wells, Patsy Cline and Ernest Tubb. With the early transition of a more pop country sound, it paved the way for today's country singers. As a result, country music is enjoyed by more people than ever before with mega-superstars such as George Strait, Reba McIntire, Kenny Chesney, Garth Brooks, and Faith Hill.
