| Who we are now? | | Melissa is a first grade teacher at East End Community School in Portland, Maine. She recently earned her masters degree in literacy education and is pursuing her certificate of advanced study. Jake currently works at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. Melissa enjoys shopping, spending time with friends and family and going to her grandparents camp. Jake enjoys reading, playing poker and playing World of Warcraft. Together we enjoy taking walks together at night, especially on the beach. We also enjoy hiking and camping. |
| How we met? |
| Jake went to high school with people that Melissa went to college with. While down visiting the guys they would bump into each other. Each time they would end up getting in trouble with whomever they were dating because they were always talking and flirting. On the night that Melissa passed her exam to earn her Masters degree she went out to celebrate with her friends from college. Jake happened to be going out that same night, and they have been together ever since. |
| The proposal? | | The weekend of August 3-5, we went to Montreal for a weekend away. We did this last summer, so I thought nothing of it. He had told me that he had got some deal on reservations at the restaurant in the hotel we were staying at. When we got to the restaurant there was a big reserved sign on our table, which I thought was strange because the place was pretty much empty except for two other small tables of people. I was like, "Why is our table reserved? It's not like they were going to run out of room for us." Jake said that he must have been the only one that fell for the deal through the hotel. So we ate dinner. At desert time Jake ordered some fresh fruit. It took the waiter a long time to bring it out. The whole time Jake was nervous that the waiter was going to mess this next part up. When desert came out the waiter put a white plate infront of me that had chocolate dipped strawberries on it surrounding a wrapped box. I asked Jake what it was and he said to open it. It was empty. I looked at him and said, "It's empty." He then replied, "Well you have to say yes first." I looked at him and said..."Are you serious?" Not exactly what he was looking for :) He got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife, and I of course said yes. |
